The Bridge Whiskey – Blenavoher
DESCRIPTION
Description
Blenavoher:
Blenavoher is a tranquil townland on the eastern shore of Lough Ree in County Longford, near the town of Lanesborough. Known for its peaceful rural character, gentle shoreline, and scenic views across one of the River Shannon’s largest lakes, the landscape features a mix of pastureland, hedgerows, and lakeside stretches that have drawn farmers, fishermen, and visitors for generations.
The name Blenavoher is derived from the Irish words suggesting a meadow or plain by the water, reflecting the townland’s geographic setting where open fields meet the lough’s edge. Historically, the area was part of important inland waterway routes on Lough Ree, supporting local fishing, transport, and connections between midlands communities long before modern roads existed.
Today, Blenavoher offers lakeside recreation such as boating, fishing, and birdwatching, along with scenic drives and quiet country lanes. Its natural beauty, lakeside heritage, and tranquil setting make it a charming example of Longford’s midlands lake country.
